Session Title:

Virtual Control or Virtual Sprawl - An Architects View

Session Abstract:

AMD started its server consolidation projects in 2006 with the conversion of 117 physical servers. Since then our VM population has almost tripled to 320 virtual machines, and we have started to implement virtualization based disaster recovery architectures. But adapting server virtualization from a consolidation project to a datacenter architecture requires a different approach to management and control especially when it comes to preventing sprawl. This presentation looks at the control issues that arose as we moved beyond server consolidation and some of the technologies that the IT organization is using to ensure that we maintain control.
