Session Title:

An Insider's View of Mobile Phone Virtualization

Session Abstract:

The coming advent of ultra low-power, multicore, 1 GHz+ CPUs, coupled with exponential growth in memory densities, will have a tremendous impact on the mobile phone industry. By narrowing the performance gap between enterprise computing and smartphones, these two trends will in turn accelerate the adoption of enterprise-class software technologies such as virtualization.
This session will explore the impact of virtualization adoption on each of the key stakeholders in the mobile phone industry, including carriers, OEMs, enterprises, and consumers. Benefits and implications for each of these entities will be discussed, including reduced design, development, production, and procurement costs; enhanced security; broader adoption of open-source operating systems; and platform-independent device management. The presentation will conclude with a focus on the recent 'consumerization of IT' phenomenon, by explaining how virtualization will play a key role in enabling this trend, through the deployment of multiple personas or 'vPhones' on a single physical device.
