Session Title:

Large Scale Virtualization

Session Abstract:

This session will give real world experience from a large scale virtualization.
Thomson Reuters Professional has many lines of business, such as Legal, Health, Tax, Scientific and Internal Infrastructure that greatly benefit from the virtualization project.
With rapid growth in customer usage of its online research services, Thomson Reuters faces the challenge of expanding its IT infrastructure while also containing costs to maintain profitability. The company has data centers at its Minnesota headquarters and these are nearing capacity.
This session will discuss how Thomson Reuters decided to use virtualization to aggressively consolidate the existing server infrastructure and contain the Server requirements for new business growth. The company also reduced the need for future data center construction as part of cost-saving and environmental initiatives.
This session will discuss how Thomson Reuters intends to realize significant cost savings:
Thomson Reuters expects to save significantly over the next few years through reduced construction. With visualisation technology and X86 servers driving up processing utilisation and capacity in the existing data centers, Thomson Reuters will therefore be able to scale back plans for new data centers.
In addition, the session will describe strategies for engaging with End-Users to encourage the acceptable and large scale adoption of conversion to Virtual Infrastructure.
The session is a must for any IT Operations Departments addressing the challenge of ever spiralling costs of Data Centre Infrastructure
