Heather,
What software are you using to burn the ISO to cd/dvd? Also, what size is the ISO file you downloaded? Per the VMW download web page:
ESXi 4.0 Update 1 Installable (CD ISO)
File size: 353 MB
File type: .iso
MD5SUM: 7d91e82b2cfb825911bd60a9b28b6bc2
SHA1SUM: acdcc2b68b673075477b5efef49403059c216fa8
If your ISO image matches up with that, I would look into a differnet burning software. One that I've used for many years with great success is a freeware product called ImgBurn. http://www.imgburn.com/
Hope that helps!
We weren't using any particular software - on the VMWare download site you go through a process which should culminate in the software downloading and being burnt onto the CD. You don't download the file and then burn it using your own software - the download and burn process is all part of the VMWare download/install procedure so you don't get a choice over what is used to burn it, nor do you get to see what size the file is.
As it happens, we have managed to get around this issue by having DELL (who supplied the server onto which we were trying to install the software) supply us with an SD card containing the required software. This card then plugs directly into the server avoiding the need to download the ISO for ourselves. Obviously this means that the issue in question is still 'out there', without a solution, but it is no longer causing us a problem!
Thanks anyway.
